One week of how some of how our viewers got here:
There are sports fans – the Williamses are of perennial interest to viewers & Sprem (Women’s Tennis); 2008 Olympics gold (Sam Wanjiru’s story of May 16 after death from a fall arising from a domestic dispute); culture enthusiasts (the Yoruba aso okeseries; raley morton, death penalty, USA, the innocence project – raley is one of the two freed after decades in US jails for murders they did not commit but got released after efforts from the Innocence Project found them innocent.
You can check out the Innocence Project website: http://www.innocenceproject.org/, and see what the organization has been doing to free those who would have been forgotten in jail or worse, killed by state governments who still believe in the old eye for an eye in good old USA. More important, get involved in the organization’s efforts by contributing.
The most followed Nigerian student on this blog may be 15-year old Ms. Saheela Ibrahim whose admission to over a dozen top U.S. colleges, including Harvard got a lot of publicity in the U.S.A. and Nigeria (emotanafricana culled the story from Sahara Reporters on May 6), some of those mentioned in “Why do immigrants kids perform so well in America (2): The Nigerian example http://emotanafricana.com/2011/06/13/why-do-immigrant-kids-perform-so-well-in-america-2/ like Kola Adebowale have led searches here. Adebowale was the Student Speaker at Illinois Institute of Tech in Chicago after parlaying hard work, mother’s encouragement and brilliance to earn a degree in Chemical Engineering.
If you haven’t, please read Adebowale’s story and those of Chioma Udeagbala and others through above link in case you missed it.
