2face and Annie wedding gift fallout: Nigerian Celebrities rush to get married

Lagos: Nigeria’s most prominent celebrity couple, superstar 2face Idibia and the awesome Annie Macaulay, recently tied the knots in faraway Dubai. But what should have been the happiest day in the couple’s lives has since been turned into a bad-belle free-for-all as Nigerians, notorious for their off-the-scale bad-belle, have since been lamenting the wedding gifts showered on the new couple by governors of and senators of Nigeria.

The awesome couple were first treated to a four-by-four by the bride’s state Governor, Godswill Akpabio, who knew better than to join in a war of words with the bad-belle people raising more than eyebrows at his gift. Then shortly after, it was reported that none other than the senate president, David Mark, had gifted a Ferrari car to the couple, thus stoking the flames of bad-belleness.

Wazobiareport.com also joined in the gifting jamboree by bestowing a 2013 corvette to the couple, but the media house chose to remain anonymous as the owners and management gave the gift in good fate and without hidden agenda to demonstrate power or garner support for future elections.

As dust settles appropriately on the faces of the bad-belle people, an interesting development has emerged. Unmarried celebrity couples in Nigeria, perhaps in hope of benefitting from the generous government largess, have started to announce their imminent wedding days, even if they are not known to be engaged.

Such is the wedding frenzy that William Hill of London is now offering good odds on Jim Iyke and Tonto Dike being the next Nigerian super star couples to tie the knots in any country other than Nigeria.
