Nigerian woman sues hair manufacturer: Says blonde weave has made her dumb
10 Feb 2012
Lagos– There was drama at the Lagos High Court, Ikoyi today when a young lady dragged the distributors of a popular human hair extension brand to court over her diminished cleverness which she blamed on the blonde attachment she bought from the company.
Things started looking bad for the defendants when on commencement of the case, honourable Judge Ogar A.Gbejo asked for clarity over the company’s nature of business.
He wanted to know if the company did indeed ‘grow’ their own human hair or by some other means not specified, ‘manufactured’ real human hair.
He wondered whether ‘human hair harvesters’ wasn’t a more appropriate description of their business.
Counsel for the plaintiff submitted as evidence of his client’s increasing dumbness since fixing the blonde hair, copies of her bank statement pre and post going blonde.
He pointed out to the court that as a self-employed full time student, his client had money coming into her account steadily from her work, but all this stopped and the trend reversed after she fixed the blonde hair.
Somehow, following going blonde, she stopped seeing her regular clients and took as boyfriend, a 100 level student who had no money, no job, and needed constant financial help from her.
“She became a mugu,” the barrister told the court.
Lawyers representing the defendant however countered, arguing that dragging their client to court and seeking financial restitution in millions of Naira demonstrated extreme cleverness rather than stupidity.
They however accepted that using their product might have had a negative effect on the plaintiff. But even at this, they argued, their client cannot be held accountable for the plaintiff’s extreme lack of beauty which became even more glaring when ‘she decided to carry bright blonde hair on her head.’
Judgment in the matter has been adjourned till Tuesday the 14th of February 2012.
