University of Ibadan Alumni register trademark for Lamidi Adedibu Univeristy
08 Jun 2012
Ibadan - Students and alumni of the University of Ibadan have registered trademarks for the name ‘Lamidi Adedibu University,’ thus making it illegal for anyone to use the name either for business or as new name for an existing university.
Speaking for the trademark owners, Professor Fiwasile said:
“We own the mark,Lamidi Adedibu University, and a dozen other variants of it and it is well within our rights to sue anyone who tries to use any of them without our consent, which we shall not be giving.”
Following the University of Ibadan example, students and well-wishers of other federal government owned universities not yet renamed are currently making trademark applications for names of departed Nigerians.
